Essential Disco Comps

Found a couple of cool compilation series that are worth checking out for DJs...

An extensive and attractively packaged series of rare disco compilations have come out under the pleasant appellation Disco Discharge. There are eight titles in the series ranging from the roots of house to Eurodisco. To be honest a lot of it is horrendous but there are sampling opportunities aplenty and many excellent vintage synth sounds on display. My favs are the ones dealing with the German and French side of things, amazing almost prog rock tracks that drone on for 16 minutes or more, disco as a cross between Giorgio Moroder and the smash robots. Usually utterly fantastic until some awful German porn star comes along with a heavily accented whine and starts going on about taking you to "the mystic hills of Katmadu"...

Another good set are the 12"/80's series, again variable quality but some interesting insight into the development of technology and mixing fads. There are a few types of these but I think the ones that are in this series are the best quality.
